Frankie Edgar did not got the send off he would have liked after being brutally knocked out by Christ Gutierrez who landed a flying knee and had Edgar sprawled out on his back.

It was Edgar last ever fight after 15 years in the UFC, first fighting at UFC 67, and going on to win the lightweight champion with wins over BJ Penn, Chad Mendes, Charles Oliveria and Yair Rodriguez in his storied career.

In his final fight at UFC 281, he would go back and forth with Gutierrez, but the younger fighter would set up a flying knee right down the middle and landing flush on the chin.

In a scary moment, Edgar looked to be badly knocked out, with his wife and children on the front row to see his last ever fight. Thankfully, he would come to quickly and was able to get back on his feet.

Edgar would look severely disappointed with the loss, as both he and announcer Joe Rogan would be emotional in his final ever post-fight interview.

Rogan does not usually interview fighters after they've been knocked out, but Edgar gave the thumbs up to speak, as he addressed and thanked his fans for the support over the years.

Edgar said: "I love this sport, I didn't want to go out like that. I love everybody, you have all made this awesome. Thank you."

Edgar is now expected to move into mixed martial arts commentary, after doing so with multiple promotions in Brazil throughout the last few years.
