Barcelona makes the perfect Winter getaway – escaping the plunging temperatures of Blighty for some Mediterranean sunshine is the perfect serotonin boost.

While many countries are bracing for a cold Christmas, temperatures in Barcelona are currently reaching over 20 degrees, which is the typical weather for a British summer.

As the Spanish city is less than two hours away from a number of airports across the UK, it makes the perfect escape for those hoping to catch a bit of Winter sun and a tan.

The city, which is home to around 1.6 million people, and is the largest autonomous community within Catalan, certainly has loads to offer.

    Away from the business of getting to experience local culture, you can relax in several of the stunning rooftop terraces across the city, with stunning panoramic views of the local sights, including the famous La Sagrada Familia and the crystal clear ocean, watching the flights land in the nearby airport.

    While Barcelona may be known for Las Rambla, a street famous for its nightlife and bars, several stunning venues can be found tucked away between the likes of High Street stores and fast food restaurants such as McDonalds'.

    Milano Jazz Bar is a perfect example, walking down the street, you wouldn't have noticed this classic Old Hollywood-inspired bar nestled between two mini supermarkets.

    Once downstairs, you really get a feel for the theme, with bar staff serving perfect cocktails and the famous Spanish beer Estrella as you sit back and watch live bands each night.

    The luxury hotel offers some of the best food across the region including seafood dishes from neighbouring France and the most tantalizing caviar you can come across.

    The Benedictine monk mountain retreat of Montserrat is the perfect place to zone out and relax as you take in the picturesque views stretching beyond the eyes can see.

    Why not take time out of your day to witness the famous Montserrat Basilica Choir Boys performance which dates back to the 14th Century?

    Cupra, a part of the Volkswagen company recently launched the Born (which was actually designed and developed in Barcelona) and it's certainly set to change the nation's views on electric cars.

    Taking the Born out of the hustle and bustle of Barcelona for a one-hour trip to the mountain range Montserrat is perhaps the best way to get the full feel of everything the car has to offer.

    Offering features from automatic braking to parking assist, its swift steering and acceleration which can see the car go from 0 – 60mph in just six seconds, makes this the perfect city driver.

    The Born, unlike many electric cars on the market, can also go from a 5% to 80% charge in just 35 minutes and boasts a driving range of 340 miles – ideal for people who want to go beyond city walls and get out on the open road.
