Chesney Hawkes performs at England vs Wales match to leave fans completely bemused

Singer Chesney Hawkes' performance during England's World Cup clash against Wales left fans completely bemused.

Wales were glad to see the half-time whistle as England ran riot in the first period, which saw Rob Page's side lose Neco Willams and Gareth Bale to injury. Williams went off after being hit in the head by a vicious shot from Marcus Rashford, then Bale was hauled off at the interval with a health issue, which was confirmed by Page who revealed the winger pulled his hamstring.

And after the eventful first half, fans were serenaded by English singer Hawkes, to the shock of fans who were surprised by his somewhat arbitrary appearance. One fan mused: "Nothing gets more random than Chesney Hawkes performing during halftime of a major world cup game."

Another chimed in: "Can someone ask his manager if we can get Chesney Hawkes for all the other England half time shows?"

And a third quipped: "Also Chesney Hawkes as half-time entertainment is the funniest thing I’ve heard in ages."

A fourth user groaned: "Couldn’t get much worse for the crowd than that and then they’re making them watch a Chesney Hawkes performance." But Hawkes' rendition of his UK No.1 smash hit 'The One and Only" seemed to just what England needed to fire them to victory.

After the 51-year-old's vocals belted reverberated around the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium, the Three Lions launched an attacking masterclass against a hapless Welsh side.

Marcus Rashford opened the scoring with a delightful free-kick effort in the 50th minute, then Phil Foden doubled England's lead a minute later.

However, Rashford wasn't done yet and bagged a double to give England a 3-0 lead before being subbed by Gareth Southgate, and Three Lions supporters will hope Hawkes is still around to perform ahead of England's knockout stage match against Senegal who finished runners-up in Group A behind the Netherlands – on Sunday.
