England players are set to pocket a huge bonus if they go all the way and win the World Cup in Qatar.

The Three Lions went one step closer to reaching the final with a 3-0 victory over Senegal on Sunday. After a nervous opening to the game, Jordan Henderson and Harry Kane each scored in the first half, before Bukayo Saka put the game out of reach for the African champions.

But while England’s stars will be dreaming of ending a barren run of nearly 60 years, it won’t hurt their ambitions to know that a massive bonus potentially awaits them.

Each England player can bag themselves an amount between £400,000 and £450,000 if they are to win their next three matches. It comes after the FA opted to set aside a grand total of around £13million in case Gareth Southgate’s side become only the second England team ever to win the coveted prize.

The FA has more than doubled the size of the bonus pot players would have won if they had been victorious in Russia 2018, according to the Daily Mail. Manager Southgate would also receive a whopping £3m bonus on top of his £6m-a-year contract if he is successful.

England players would have won £215,000 each if they had beaten Croatia and gone on to win the final four years ago. But the FA have upped the ante following their success at the Euros last year, where they narrowly crashed out on penalties in the final.

Southgate’s men also stand to gain huge commercial bonuses worth several million pounds from their sponsors if they come away with the goods in Qatar.

However, England players do not in fact keep their standard international appearance fees. According to ex-goalkeeper Ben Foster, there is a tradition whereby all Three Lions stars donate their earnings to charity.

Foster said: "The way England works is you get a match fee for playing the game. It’s nothing major. You might be talking two grand a game or something. But every single players' match fee has always been signed off to charity."
