We simulated England vs France to get a World Cup quarter-final score prediction

England face defending world champions France in the 2022 World Cup quarter-finals on Saturday night in a big test for Gareth Southgate's side.

Jordan Henderson, Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka all got on the scoresheet for England in their Round of 16 clash with Senegal last Sunday, with the Three Lions beating the African side 3-0. It was the third consecutive clean sheet for England in the 2022 World Cup, and Southgate's backline will need to be on top form on Saturday to shut out a dangerous France attack.

Kylian Mbappe scored his fourth and fifth goals of the 2022 World Cup in France's quarter-final victory, with Olivier Giroud also scoring in the 3-1 win over Poland. Didier Deschamps' side should prove England's toughest test of the competition so far, with Les Blues looking to win the prestigious trophy for the second time in a row.

Raheem Sterling has returned to the Three Lions camp after heading back to England after his home was broken into, but the forward is not expected to start. Ben White has left the England squad due to personal reasons, whilst John Stones and Callum Wilson have been shaking off minor knocks over the last few days.

So, how could England fare against France on Saturday evening? We simulated the clash to try and predict the outcome.

England vs France score prediction

To run this simulation, we used FIFA 23 and updated the squads with the latest injuries and suspensions. We didn't select a team to control, but let the AI take control to predict the England vs France score.

We expect that the Three Lions could line up unchanged in a 4-3-3 formation, with its line-up as follows: Pickford; Walker, Stones, Maguire, Shaw; Rice, Henderson, Bellingham; Saka, Kane, Foden.

We predict that France could set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with their line-up as follows: Lloris; Kounde, Varane, Upamecano, T. Hernandez; Tchouameni, Rabiot; Dembele, Griezmann, Mbappe; Giroud.

France hit the post when Ousmane Dembele rounded Jordan Pickford after just five minutes, with the chance looking harder to miss than score. The early opportunity showed how dangerous France can be, but England's nerves were calmed just minutes later when Jude Bellingham opened the scoring.

Henderson burst forward to infiltrate the space left by Kane in the box as the striker dropped deep, and the England captain managed to pick out Henderson with a well-weighted through ball. As the ball arrived at the feet of the Liverpool man, he smartly flicked the ball into the path of Bellingham, and the 19-year-old rifled his shot past Hugo Lloris to take the lead.

Both sides created some good opportunities in the first half, with Jordan Pickford called into action twice to make important saves for Southgate's side. But, it was England who took advantage of their chances, with Kane notching England's second.

Bellingham was involved again, this time skipping past Aurelien Tchouameni with a neat piece of skill before breaking into the box. As Lloris came off his line to close down the angle for Bellingham, the 19-year-old squared the ball to Kane, and the England captain swept the ball into the net to double the lead.

France came out firing in the second half as they looked to get back into the game, and they halved the deficit not long after the restart when Adrien Rabiot found the top corner with a powerful long-range strike. The reigning champions started to look dangerous in attack as they looked for the leveller, but an error in midfield from Les Blues led to England grabbing a third.

Henderson was at the heart of the goal, with the midfielder's pressure in midfield forcing Rabiot into giving up possession on the halfway line. The 32-year-old found Bellingham's advancing run on the left, and his through ball to Kane was fired past Lloris from close range to confirm the victory for Southgate's side.
