Neymar has risked angering PSG team-mate Kylian Mbappe after sending a congratulatory message to Lionel Messi following Argentina's stunning World Cup triumph.

Messi and Mbappe went toe-to-toe in what was arguably the greatest World Cup final in history last night, netting five of the game's six goals between them.

Argentina eventually prevailed on penalties, and Neymar congratulated his "brother" Messi in a heartwarming tweet after the game, uploading a photo of his club-mate holding the World Cup trophy and the World Cup Golden Ball – awarded to the best player at the tournament.

The message, though innocent in appearance, could be construed as a slight to Mbappe, who, rumour has it, has a frosty relationship with Neymar, despite the two being team-mates for years.

They've been battling for the spotlight in Paris since 2017, though their off-field troubles haven't particularly have affected cohesion on it.

It was rumoured their relationship was at breaking point earlier this year after Mbappe was handed a new bumper contract that, according to reports, effectively gave him a say in who PSG's manager is, as well as in team selection.

It's understood Mbappe urged the club to sell Neymar in the summer having grown frustrated with the Brazilian's work ethic, though no such sale transpired.

Neymar missed out on the chance of facing his PSG team-mates at the World Cup after Brazil were knocked out in the quarter-finals by Croatia on penalties.
