The world's richest-ever tennis player has a greater net worth than three of the most successful male stars in the sport of all-time.

Tennis icons Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have won 61 Grand Slam titles between them, but none of the trio have amassed as much wealth as billionaire Ion Tiriac.

Tiriac is reportedly sitting on a £1.5billion fortune, a mammoth sum that dwarfs the amounts that Djokovic, Federer and Nadal have to their names.

In comparison to the Romanian tennis legend turned magnate, Djokovic is worth an estimated £144million, slightly more than Nadal who has a rumoured value of £129m, while Federer has garnered a £329m net worth. When added together, the tennis greats combined value comes in at £597m – less than half of Tiriac's fortune.

However, while the trio have earned their cash on the court and through brand deals, Tiriac accumulated his wealth through investing in a number of endeavours including licensing, retail, insurance, auto leasing, and airline firms.

And the ambitious 83-year-old also opened Romania's first private bank. But despite his success off the court, Tiriac failed to make an impact during his playing days.

He never won any singles Grand Slams in his career, and the only trophy he lifted was the French Open doubles title with Ilie Nastase in 1970.

Unlike Nadal, who has scooped 20 Grand Slams in his career thus far, and Federer lifted 21 titles before retiring in 2022, while Djokovic's won the most out the bunch with a total of 22 trophies.

And the Serb will be on course to attain his 23rd Grand Slam if he gets past Tommy Paul in the semi-final of the Australian Open. He'll face either Stefanos Tsitsipas or Karen Khachanov in the final, depending on who wins the other last-four clash.

If Djokovic wins the Aussie Open title, it will be a full circle moment for the world No5 after he was banned from competing in the tournament last year due to his refusal to get the Covid jab.

And Djokovic's time in Melbourne hasn't gone without controversy this year either following his furious demand to eject a paralytically drunk fan from his second-round game against world No191 Enzo Couacaud.
