Spurs decide price tag for Harry Kane as Man Utd told payment ‘must come upfront’

Tottenham Hotspur have slapped a staggering £100m price tag on Harry Kane in the hope of discouraging a bid from Manchester United.

The England captain, 29, is still yet to sign a new deal in north London with his current one set to expire in June 2024. Chairman Daniel Levy is determined to keep his prized asset at the club, and has pencilled in crisis talks at the end of the season, but a lack of silverware is understood to have swayed Kane's decision.

Fresh from their League Cup triumph, Man Utd are known to be plotting a huge summer swoop as they battle to close the gap on title rivals Manchester City and Arsenal. And topping Erik ten Hag's wish list is a world-class forward.

In 2021, Tottenham rejected an initial £75m bid, rising to £100m, from Man City with Levy demanding the Premier League champions stump up an eye-watering £150m, which would have broken the British transfer record. City were unwilling to match Levy's valuation, instead biding their time in the race for Erling Haaland, who they subsequently landed for just £51m.

With Pep Guardiola's side now out of the running, The Times report city rivals Man Utd are leading the chase to sign Kane but in order to bag their no.1 target The Red Devils will have to fork out £100m in one upfront payment. United are eager to avoid long, drawn-out negotiations with the stingy Levy as a failed pursuit could derail their attacking plans and see them miss out on alternative targets.

European giants Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are also understood to be keeping tabs on three-time golden boot winner but Kane is understood to prefer a move to another Premier League side as he chases down Alan Shearer's goal record. The Spurs striker ranks third in the all-time top scorer's chart and is 56 goals behind the former Newcastle United hero.

United have earmarked Napoli's Victor Osimhen and RB Salzburg's Benjamin Sesko as possible options if they fall victim to another Leby stand-off. Sesko has already agreed a £20m move to Salzburg's franchise partner RB Leipzig, however, there is a premonition The Red Devils could gazump the agreement by paying a higher fee.
