Darts icon Wayne Mardle spotted at the snooker – but he doesn’t appear very happy

Wayne Mardle had to brush off comments saying he was bored of the snooker – having been spotted watching Mark Selby.

Mardle, a four-time PDC World Darts Championship semi-finalist, was at the Crucible in Sheffield as Selby beat John Higgins to reach the semi-finals.

Having been spotted on the BBC Sport feed looking a tad bored, Mardle took to Twitter to dismiss that theory – with his followers all having the same idea.

The man himself took to Twitter to say: "Believe it or not I’m enjoying the snooker. C'mon Mark!"

A large portion of the comments had the same theme, poking fun at Mardle's insistence that a nine-dart-finish is harder than a maximum break of 147 in snooker.

One comment read: "Surprised you wasn't murmuring in the background: 'A 9 darter is more difficult'." A second added: "Wayne wondering why he's not seen a 147 yet because they're so easy."

A third chuckled: "Trying to find out first hand if 147’s are easier eh?"

Mardle's thoughts on the 147 vs nine-darter debate have caused a huge stir on social media – and he says he made his mind up using 'data and facts'.

He told William Hill: "The debate continues. Well, it doesn’t. It’s over because I trotted out stats and the snooker people don’t like it.

"Shaun Murphy alluded to something on Twitter a couple of days ago. Me and Shaun have been back and forth over this over the years. All friendly stuff, of course.

"But what is more difficult? The 147 in snooker or a nine-darter? Well, there’s been 14 nine-darters in the World Championships since 1994 over an example of 34,000 legs of darts.

"There’s been 12 147s over just over 21,000 frames. That means it’s fact a 147 is easier than a nine-darter. It’s data. It’s facts, it’s not opinion. Get over it snooker people."
