Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai admits to ‘really long’ days before transfer got done

New Liverpool signing Dominik Szoboszlai has opened up on a "really long" few days following his summer switch to Anfield.

The Hungarian international, 22, has penned a deal up until June 2028 at the Premier League club after the Reds triggered the £60m release clause in his contract.

Szoboszlai joins from RB Leipzig, where he registered 12 goals and 16 assists in the Bundesliga, and developed into one of the world's leading creative midfielders with the Merseysiders fending off interest from nouveau riche Newcastle United to acquire his services.

And speaking on a whirlwind last few days, Liverpool's latest addition has given an insight into the hecticness of the summer transfer window.

"It’s really, really good. I enjoyed the last [few] days and I’m looking forward to knowing everybody better," Szoboszlai told Liverpool's club website after putting pen to paper on a five-year deal.

"The last three or four days went really long; it was not that easy. But at the end I’m here, I’m happy and I can’t wait to get started. [A] really historic club, really good players, good coach, everything is good. For me it was perfect to make the next step in a club like this. The fans, the stadium, everything is really good."

With Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner all heading onto pastures new, Jurgen Klopp had emphasised an urgent need for reinforcements in the middle of the park and new sporting director Jorge Schmadtke has moved quickly to add quality and youthfulness to the Anfield outfit.

On top of Szoboszlai, World Cup winner Alexis MacAllister was welcomed as the first arrival into the AXA Training Centre at the beginning of June. The former Brighton and Hove Albion man, who was picked up for a cut-price fee of £35m, has also penned a five-year deal at the club.
