Man hovering with jetpack at Austrian GP falls out of the sky and smashes into track

A jetpack-wearing man fell out of the sky and crashed into the track at the Austrian Grand Prix.

As part of the pre-race build-up at the Red Bull Ring, a pair of entertainers flew around the track. However, one had a rather uncomfortable and embarrassing landing. Thankfully they appeared to escape serious injury.

The man appeared to realise something was wrong as he came into land but was powerless to do anything about it as he hit the floor hard and rolled along the track.

Footage cut to an aerial view of the man before then switching to McLaren’s Oscar Piastri staring blankly into a screen in his garage ahead of the race.

Thankfully, footage then emerged of the man getting to his feet and gesturing to the crowd, albeit while limping.

F1 fans were quick to see the funny side with many quipping “safety car” or “yellow flag” following the incident.

One fan, perhaps alluding to the continued domination of Max Verstappen this season, said: “Possibly the best moment of today.”

Another said: “Poor man, he got up limping, albeit with his head held high and greeting the public, yes sir!”

In the wake of the track limits controversy which has dominated the weekend, a third joked: “Race Control: Car 00 (JET) lap deleted – track limits at turn 10 (next lap pit).”

The incident followed an eventful sprint race on Saturday, won by Verstappen following a feisty first lap battle with Red Bull team-mate Sergio Perez.

Despite racking up yet another victory on his probable gallop to a hat-trick of world championships, Verstappen expressed his disappointment with the conduct of Perez.

“The exit of Turn 1 was not really nice,” said Verstappen on his way back to the pits after he crossed the finish line 21 seconds clear of the Mexican.

“That could have been a big shunt so we need to have a chat about that because it was not OK."

Ultimately on Sunday, Verstappen went on to win the grand prix, with Charles Leclerc in second and Perez in third.
