It's safe to assume Fernando Alonso and Lando Norris don't consider Esteban Ocon to be among their close friends in Formula 1.

Drivers in the sport can be somewhat egotistical, and it's not uncommon for even team-mates to harbour tensions between one another as each seeks individual success. That being said, there's also a genuine camaraderie between peers that often sees rivals celebrate each other's successes.

But that wasn't the case in the latest episode of F1's 'Grill The Grid' series, where drivers were asked to name race-winners beginning with every letter of the alphabet. Alonso was on the books at Alpine with Ocon as his team-mate when the Frenchman won the Hungarian Grand Prix in 2021, which remains his sole F1 triumph to date.

It makes Ocon the only driver with a surname starting with 'O' to have ever won an F1 race. But Alonso – who left Alpine for Aston Martin earlier this year – refused to acknowledge that achievement even after being reminded of the feat.

The two-time world champion was genuinely perplexed when trying to think of an answer for the letter 'O'. However, Alonso had a lightbulb moment when he was prompted the driver in question was French and 'might have been a team-mate of his'.

He replied by letting out a half chuckle-half grimace, then laughed along with the camera crew as he answered: "Pass!"

Tensions between the former Alpine pair have been clear in the past, with Alonso seemingly far more content with current comrade Lance Stroll, whom he has said he 'thinks of as a team-mate'. Ocon, on the other hand, didn't hesitate to jostle for position with his colleague during their time together, and the two even made contact twice at last year's Brazilian Grand Prix.

He'll hope to pick up where he left off on home soil when the sport returns, with the Dutch Grand Prix next on the 2023 calendar. The Red Bull star has won both editions of the race since it was restored in 2021 following a 36-year absence from the schedule.

It's only natural much of the attention will be on Verstappen as the rest of the field attempts to reel in the runaway title favourite. However, fans may well have their eyes on another couple of rivalries simmering further down the pack.
